The factors causing wear in slurry pumps include the following aspects
(1) Medium characteristics.
(2) Material characteristics.
(3) Interaction between abrasive and material.
The main ways to improve the service life of pump flow-through components are reasonable material selection, proper model selection, and improved hydraulic design.
The most severely worn parts when a slurry pump transports solid-liquid mixtures are the impeller, followed by the pump body or flow-through parts such as liners and wear plates. The wear of the pump depends on the intrinsic relationship among the following parameters:
(1) Rheological properties of the solid-liquid mixture.
(2) Solid particle size, shape, hardness, and density, etc.
(3) Pump structural type and parameters.
(4) Pump speed or impeller peripheral velocity.
(5) Performance of pump materials, such as hardness, strength (elongation, acid and alkali resistance, heat resistance), etc.
Among the factors affecting the service life of slurry pumps, the first is material performance, the second is medium characteristics, the third is pump structure and hydraulic parameters, and operating conditions come last.
